Abstract
Congenital anomalies are errors of morphogenesis, determined in part by genetic factors. The exposure of the mother and fetus to known teratogenic factors (infectious, physical, chemical, maternal diseases) cause about 9-10% of the defects, while 65% have no known etiology.
They have been used: - Hospital discharge card (SDO); - Certificate of attendance at birth (Cedap); - Register of congenital malformations in the Calabria Region (RRMC). This study was carried out by building an algorithm that performs a search operation of the cases and identify malformed from the analysis of individual SDO. Subsequently, the algorithm checks for the cases identified in Cedap and RRMC Registry flows.
Cases with at least one ICD-9-CM code in the range 740-759 were 1,307. Following the application of the assessment criteria, they were considered "validated" 449 cases. They were detected in 81 cases with malformation Cedap and 215 flow in RRMC registry. The cases with congenital malformations registered in the various streams were 449 with a birth prevalence at 27.6 per 1,000.
The results showed that there is no perfect model for data collection, but you can and should benefit from the integration of information collected from multiple sources.
