Well-being and poverty becomes more and more important within the framework of the sustainable development goals (SDG) as a measure for the population. The current SDG indicators, however, measure the different goals by global measures on country-level. In many cases, local structures and local differences play an important role, like in the context of the SDG 3, good health and well-being.

In this paper, different approaches to measure selected well-being and poverty indicators on regional and local level are discussed and further developed. First, infrastructural information from geographic data sources is employed to elaborate local patterns of indicators for wellbeing. These data comprise flight and satellite data. Next, census data will be used, provide information on grid-level. Finally, survey data will integrated, which, in general, are available only on administrative levels, and hence, cover larger areas especially in town areas. We will discuss strategies to use the different data sources in the context of small area estimates and point out further opportunities for future developments. The case study will be conducted in the Trier area.
