Abstract

The political instability in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, various conflicts are the main drivers of such an unprecedented global displacement of people. The massive movements of populations in the Mediterranean area call for a rapid and deep knowledge of the phenomenon. An emerging strategy considers the analysis of publicly available twitter data providing high resolution positioning when users opt to geotag their tweets with their current location. Using the VOICES-INT platform, we track migratory trajectories of people who is currently involved in the migration across the Mediterranean central route and the possible relocation of displaced people who spent a period in the UN refugee camps.
